my dog has been very healthy for the past 10 years, she has never had to go to the vet because she was sick, only for shots and checkups. Well recently she had been yelping so we took her to the vet and she has some problems with her liver, certain levels of things that afftect her liver are way higher than they should be. Now i might sound paranoid but we jsut got new neighbors and our neighbor before hated her because she barks a lot, well this new neighbor isnt friendly and doesnt speak with us and i think maybe he poisoned her, but what kind of poisons can affect a dogs liver?

Tylenol? I don't know. But, I do know that animals develop illnesses just as humans do. Your dog is an older dog, so it is more prone to more natural illnesses than younger ones. Also different breeds have different problems too.

Didn't the Vet tell you what could be causing it? Such as liver cancer, disease, or other natural illness? I hope those people are not poisoning your dog. That is awful.

But, I would try to keep your dog from barking too much by going out to check on her. Tell her no, but don't hit her if she's barking at neighbors. Take her in if she is barking for too long a period.

Antifreeze seems the most likely...and dogs WILL ingest it freely because it's rather sweet to them...liver enzymes can be thrown into array by a wide host of things(not just poison)...and your dog IS getting up there in canine years. Perhaps, for your peace of mind...and your neighbors...you could try a barking collar or your dog...or train her another way when its appropriate to bark and when its not. I have two dogs myself...but nothing drives me crazier than a barking dog that won't shut-up and the dog owner who lets his dog bark non-stop. In most places, 30 minutes of non-stop barking is a violation and enough to make the cops come issue a citation. There's a very good article on dog poisoning at the link provided.

You may want to always check your yard from now on before letting your pup out if you think the neighbors are posioning her. Make sure nothing has been thrown over the fence.

At night you can use a retractable leash and keep her on the other side of the yard away from their fenceline. If you see her eat something off the ground and think it may be poisoned bait you might want to make her vomit by using hydrogen peroxide. Talk to your vet and see what they say. Some toxins are better left in the dog and absorbed with charcoal... so don't do anything without talking to your vet first.

I really hope she is ok.

Sugarless candies can be toxic to pets and can cause liver damage!

Sugarless candies can be toxic to pets. Candies containing xylitol have been recognized by the National Animal Poison Control Center to be a risk to pets. This information was first published in July 2004. This compound can cause liver damage and death in dogs susceptible to being poisoned with xylitol. If your dog ingests sugarless candy it would be best to contact the NAPCC (1-888-426-4435). It is possible your vet will not be familiar with this source of poisoning as this information is fairly new and candies have not usually been associated with poisonings in dogs if they did not contain chocolate as the major ingredient.

A lot of them. And some people are just mean-spirited enough to deliberately oh, leave antifreeze around where the dog could get at it.

You're going to have to find a way to keep your dog from getting near Grumpy Neighbor. And keep Grumpy Neighbor away from your dog.

Good luck.

Um...Any really. I believe rat poisons work...

If you think she has been poisoned, like everyone else says, tell this to your veterinarian. I can't give you much advice, because mine only died of old age. So, all I can say is:

Get your veterinarian's advice, and if it's true and you think your neighbor did it, call some animal cops and complain.

antifreeze and dogs like it....people leave it around in containers near garages etc....does your dog run free? if so she may not be free much longer if she is getting into chemicals in other people's yards....check your own property for antifreeze also, if it is leaking out of a car and onto a driveway she could be licking it up....it is deadly
