I have a relative whose moods change from day to day. One day she is angry and the next she is compuslive. Sometimes she is happy but it is rare. She does not work, have friends, and lives at home. Do you think there is anything that can help her? She has tried medication and therapy to no avail. Thanks

There are different supplements out there that she can take but it may be wise for her to go to her local mental health agency and seek counseling and see a phychiatrist who can work with her about getting the right medications and alternatives if she choses not to take prescibed medications.

She also needs to make sure she is taking her medications as perscribed to her and not using drugs or alcohol because it can affect the medications.

Sometimes people find it helpful to talk to a clergy/pastor. It may help her to start getting out even if it is a little at a time. even if it is once a week and her taking baby steps so she can feel comfortable. good luck.

There is no dietary supplement that will help a problem this severe. She may have tried medication and therapy, but if the medication was an antidepressant it can take six to eight weeks to see if it's helping, and it may be the third or fourth one that helps her. So if she got discouraged because she didn't get better right away (and right away in this context can mean after a few months) then she should try again, and she needs encouragement to stick with it. It's better for her to see a psychiatrist for this rather than the family doctor. Any doctor can prescribe but a psychiatrist has the knowledge of what works best.
