Well, you could have an infection. Strep usually gives you a raw throat with pustule-like dots. Swallowing is very hard.
If you are suffering from sinus pain, try a saline nasal rinse (not a spray.) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It soothes with warmth, it draws out the entire gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean, but without the eye stinging).
Buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot
You can do this as often as you like with no side effects.
You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. If you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis

In the presence of a "sinus infection", you can have post-nasal drip of the exudate (pus from your sinuses) dripping into the back of your throat, causing inflammation and irritation.
If your doctor gives you a prescription for the sinus infection, it should also cover your sore throat.
If you see white patches in the back of your throat, and if you have a fever...go get a culture before you start any antibiotics...to rule out strep.
In the meantime, drink plenty of fluids.

There are many different things that you can do to relieve your sore throat. I recommended a home remedy such as a gargle made of salt devolved in warm water or a hot drink made up of hot water, honey and lemon. But if you have tried these and they haven't worked for you, or you just don't have the ingredients, then I recommended a medicated throat lolly or gargle. If non of these give you relief, then I would go to your local GP and he might be able to prescribe you something stronger etc. Hope this helps!!

sore throats often accompany sinus infection. as the ear, nose and throat are joined, infections in one area can lead to iritation in the other, if you having antibiotic treatment for the sinus infection it is unlikely you have a different infection in your throat, just have some pain relief and gargle with salt water to relieve the sypmtons, naturally if pain persists or symptons worsen consult your doctor

The nasty, infected mucus drains down the back of your throat, infecting tissue there also. It helps to always blow your nose and not sniff it to keep it from running. This will help prevent it.
