My 5 yr old weighed 46.5 lbs the beginning of Jan. She now weighs 51.5 lbs. This seems to be an excessive amount of weight gained.

It really depends on her height, I would think. The range for a 5-year-old's healthy weight is 32.6 lbs - 51.7 lbs and height ranges around 38.6 inches - 45.7 inches. I can see that's she's at the higher range for weight, but is she at the higher range for height too? If she is, I wouldn't worry about it. If you feel she does weigh too much, discuss it with your pediatrician. Good luck!

Are you using the same scale? If not, it's probably not really weight that she's actually gained. The scales could be off. If it is just keep an eye on her. She may be having a growth spurt and shoot up 2 inches next month. Just be sure she's eating a healthy diet and getting plenty of activity time and if you are still worried call the doctor.

If there hasn't been any major change in her eating habits, and she seems to be feeling okay, I would just write it off as a growth spurt. Has she been eating a lot of a junk food lately? Has her activity level decreased? Has she gotten any taller? Weight fluctuates in children just like it does in adults. Unless she seems to be feeling sick, she is probably fine.

That does not sound healthy for her age. When I worked in an day care we had a boy gain weight too quickly and the pediatrician had his parents put him on a diet.

i would bring the child to a pediatrician cause there are diseases out there like what you are talkin about
