we only give them to the ones that lick or chew. 95% of them dont need one. just depends on the vet and there policy.
at petco or petsmart you can get different colors. if you need one.

Usually your vet will encourage you to buy a cone for your male puppy, because they really tend to lick the stitched area and this can pull the stitches out. With a cone on them, they can't reach that area to lick. Don't worry, most dogs only need to wear the cone for a few days, and some don't even bother with the cone at all.
Neutering is a very responsible thing to do, since it makes your dog a happier and healthier pet, and you can rest safely knowing that you're not adding to the huge overpopulation of dogs out there. A few days of cone-wearing is definitely worth the lifetime benefits.

Not all dogs need the cone after they get neutered. One of my dogs did just find but my other male needed the cone because he kept pulling out his stitches. My vet didn't give me the cone I had to buy one. So check and see if your vet will give you one. If not then it is cheaper to buy one rather than buy it from your vet so maybe it will be a good idea to have one on hand encase you do need it. They come in different sizes so you have to look for that.

BAD things about neutering your dog: None of the fallowing is true and is based off myths and opinions and is NOT supported by real vets or the vet schools - Increased risk for osteosarcoma (bone cancer) when neutered before 1 year of age. - Increased risk for cardiac hemangiosarcoma - Increased risk for hypothyroidism - Increased risk for progressive geriatric cognitive impairment - Increased risk for obesity - Increased risk for prostate cancer - Increased risk for urinary tract cancers - Increased risk for orthopedic disorders - Increased risk for adverse reactions to vaccinations There are NO cons what so ever to getting a dog spayed or neutered, all this BS sprouted up shortly after the anti spay\neuter nutters started to crawl out of the wood work. Dogs and casts have been spayed and neutered at 8-9 weeks for the last thirty years and none of this has been proven true Neuter your damn dog, there is no reason to wait unless you believe this nonsense.

Some male dogs will because they may lick the stiches to much and pull them out. The same goes for female dogs as well. It is just a precaution. They look so cute.

Not anymore. They found it became more of a problem because some dogs would get the plastic caught on their stitckes or it would rub against the area and agitate it. Licking actually helps develope a clot to help the area heal but be careful of excessive licking or chewing.

There is also a collar that looks like a rolled up pillow that works really nicely too....they can still see past it but they cant bend their neck all the way to get their teeth and lips near the stitches and they are really cute too
