I was just riding in my dad's truck today and it made me wonder: What is the 'Low Range' button directly under the '4X4' button do? I've seen it on at least two vehicles before: A '95 F-150 and a '91 Explorer.

its a lower range 4wd,
its geared lower than 4-hi
people dont use it nearly as often as 4-hi, it for things like pulling someone out of the ditch if you cant quite do it in 4-hi, or to pull a stump, or if you get yourself stuck really bad and 4-hi wont cut it, or to get traction going up an icy hill, or to slow yourtruck down going down an icy hill so you dont have to use the brakes as much, which could cause you to slide.
