I don't want to traumitize her, but she has long fur, and I think something stinky is tangled in it. She has a few knots in her bib fur as well. She is so cute and sweet, but I can't be within a foot of her right now. Should I just wait for the stench to go away?

It is not easy to wash a cat. I would take her to an animal groomer, they have all the tools to do it correctly. Because seriously, you could get injured if she freaks out because of the water.

If she isnt finnicky about taking a bath, than go ahead.I bathe my cat once every two weeks because it gets under cars and the oil from the car might make him sick if he swallows it.I say go for,try it out.To absord moisture and eliminate odor from the coat,I use a little bit of baby powder, but you can use a nice-smelling flea and tick powder instead.Your cat has long fur,so brush from its roots to ends calmly and evenly with a real fine brush, preferable for cats.
If you dont want to bathe her, whatever's tangled in it,get a scissor and cut it out as a last resort.I had to do this with my Schnauzer.lol.It will grow back soon enough, though.

I would take her to a groomer. I only say that because you said she has long hair. They may need to shave her, in the Lion Cut. It looks stupid and she will look humiliated...but her fur will grow back. Also, get a brush and start brushing her coat out. If she gets shaved, get a soft one, till the fur grows. This way, you can get her used to being brushed. I had a cat that would come running when I pulled her brush out, she loved it so much! My cats I have now, one likes it, the other hates it. But, in a nutshell, take her to get her groomed.

The stench won't go away. Take her to a groomer for a bath or if the hair is badly matted they may need to shave her down. We have a himylian persian who we have shaved down every so often to keep control of the hair. On her and on the carpet.

Well, if you had something sticky and smelly in your long hair, what would you do? Wait for it to stop stinking and perhaps dissolve away gradually or wash your hair?

I wash my cats regularly - about every other month - whether they need it or not. They always look and smell beautiful. Also - don't allow your cat outdoors, as this will help it to stay clean in the first place. I prefer to just bring one of my cats into the shower with me, as it is easy to get them wet, shampoo them and rinse them thoroughly without them being able to escape. Then my husband takes them and dries them and I clean up myself and the shower.

DO NOT... DO NOT.. Bath you cat until she is seen by a vet and the mats are removed.. let the vet do it... it sounds like she has fecal material in her fur and this is NOT GOOD... she needs to be seen ASAP.. bathing her will make things worse.. she need clipped first, then the skin treated and THEN LET THE VET DO ANY BATHING NEEDED.. this could turnout very badly for you and the cat..

most cats are afraid of water.I would take a baby wipe and try to wash her that way.might be less fearful for her and also would make her smell a little better at the same time. You could also call a vet that tends to cats and ask for their professional opinion before you do anything if you not sure.i have 4 cats.2 are kittens.they are afraid of water.I tried washing one of the kittens and she jumped right out of my hands when she heard the water.

Cats with long fur should be brushed very frequently. You can try giving her a bath, but DON'T try to blowdry her fur!! She will FREAK OUT!!

You can also buy kitty cologne from the vet or petstore.

it depends on how calm she is. u never know how cats will act. but they have wipes at walmart and places like that for cats. if she has stuff matted in her fur u might want to take her to a groomer, but its not going to be cheap. good luck

You can wear a mask and try to wash her or you can take her to the pet store. The experts can handle a foul-smelling cat.
