If you pay the original amount owed and get it in writing from them that you are paid in full, make sure you also get it in writing that they will be reporting to the bureaus you paid in full. If not, your collection will say settled. It is true that the collection comes off your report in 7 years, but you have to be careful. Even though it comes off your credit report, they can still sue you if the statute of limitations hasn't expired. Please use the link below to see when your state's statute of limitations expire. If the company sues you, you will have a judgement on your credit report and that is worse.

You owe the collection fees because it cost your original creditor money to have your bill collected. These are charges you acrued because you chose not to resolve your debt in a timely manner.
You need to accept responsibility for your poor judgement and resolve your debt as quickly as possible.
Regardless of the age of the account (unless you live in one of 2 specific states) you owe your bill until its paid. They can get a judgement against you, garnish your wages, etc. until you step up to the plate and do what you are supposed to.

join a debt settlement company who will work with the collections agencies. They will negotiate with the collection agency and bring down your principal debt amount by around 30% to 70% depending who your creditor is.

You can make minimum monthly payments and get out of debt with 3-36 months.
