To be rude is to lower one's standards.

There are no acceptable reason why a person should be deliberately rude. If a person is unintentionally rude, that is something else, they should be made aware of their faux pas.

Rudeness also conveys a sense of one's feeling of their own superiority. If a person is rude to me, they think that they are better than me somehow, someway - not necessarily in every way, mind you. If I retaliated and was rude as well, I would be lowering my standards.

There really is no reason to be rude.

Rude, by definition, is not acceptable behavior. But it's acceptable if your intention was to do something to someone else that they would be irritated by, and when they deserved the aggravation.
