For me it's an addition! If i try to go more than a couple of hours without a cigarette i start getting shakey and nervous and cranky. Drugs are addictive. You know how when people( not me) on drugs are when they don't have any, they get all shakey and nervous? well that's how i am when i need a cigarette!

I think smoking is an addiction. You can get withdrawal symptoms just like if you were on drugs when you go to long without a cigarette.Nicotine from smoking changes the structure and function of your brain. When the brain stops getting the nicotine it's used to, you begin feeling strong withdrawal cravings. These cravings for cigarettes are actually your brain craving nicotine. I have tryed to quit but it is not easy at all!!! It is definitely and addiction.

I believe the correct answer is "both"! We all know from the lawsuits the cigarette companies were lacing them with addictive additives! That would also support the shakes and nervousness.
HOWEVER, as a smoker for some 20 years I went cold turkey and have not touched one in 20 years! So all these winy *** people who claim they can't stop and spend their life savings on all the available gimmick are just weak! If you have the will power, you can go cold turkey! I suffered about a month in the beginning which took a lot of strength on my part, and then again maybe two or three years after that for several month. However, since kicking the habit I have no desire and to state the truth, can't stand to be any where near a smoker!

No, it's a subtraction.

Scientific evidence over the past 50 years has pointed to same exact thing: smoking is more than a habit. It is absolutely addictive, and quitting requires an enormous amount of willpower.

It is definitely an addiction. Nicotine, is highly addictive, and giving up smoking for some individuals is difficult, but not impossible. It takes more than will power. Go talk with your doctor who can help you get over the craving and addiction.

I think it starts out a habit because you do it when you are bored or when your friends do it and then you become addicted to the nicotine. That's just my opinion.

It's an addiction. Nicotine makes you crave it, so when you don't have it, it makes you go crazy. But it's also a habit because you choose to do it...

i am a smoker and i would like to say habit. and the only reason why is because i have yet to try and quit. when i do try and quit, if i can't stop. then i will consider it addiction, not addition.
