When animals are butchered for meat, the inedible parts like the hide and hooves are sold to other industries for making leather, tallow, or even glue.

Yes; the fat is taken from the animal after the animal is slaughtered. It's "rendered" by cooking to remove water, and then allowed to harden. It's often rendered a second time before it's used to make soap.

It's tough to get animal fat without killing an animal.
