We have 2 boxes, one for each but the kitten uses both. My oldest cat refuses to use a litter box that was used by our kitten. So she ends up relieving herself next to the litter boxes. We clean the boxes everyday and she continues to do this. Any Ideas?

If you check, most sites recommend a litter box for each plus an extra one. Beyond that I have no idea.

Is there somewhere the older cat is allowed that the kitten isn't? If there is, put a litter box there exclusively for the older cat.

To be honest it sounds like the older cat is expressing her disapproval of the kitten and is letting you know who the queen of the house is.

Sounds to me like your original/older cat has not been given enough time to adjust to having the kitten around. This means you probably need to separate them if possible. Keep one or the other in a room by themself with their own litter box.
Cats are very territorial you know. Your older cat is just trying to establish his/her territory separate from the kitten. The kitten likewise is establishing it's territory. There lies the rub, or problem if you will. Give the older cat some time to get use to the kitten.

Maybe use a spray water bottle on the kitten when it uses the wrong litter box, and praise it or give it treats when it uses the right one. Or just toilet train both of them. lol

I have one regular and one enclosed box. One of my cats will only use the regular box, but the other one uses both boxes. That one seems to do #2 mostly in the enclosed box and #1 mostly in the regular box.

I absolutely have a buddy who leaves her 3 cats on my own interior the residing house for 3 days and nights each and each week because she has to commute for her job. interior the previous, she had a roommate who lived there and took care of the cats at the same time as she became away. at the same time as the roommate moved out, my buddy all set to make money operating from residing house, so all became nicely with the cats. Then, my buddy had to commence travelling for her job lower back and her cats all started doing what your cats are doing (utilizing both the clutter field and the tub) - probable because they were unhappy about her being away many of the time. I cautioned her to communicate sweetly and obviously to the cats for no less than ten minutes earlier leaving city each and each week. I also cautioned her to apply in effortless words unscented, scoopable clutter. She took my suggestion and it worked! The cats stopped utilizing the tub!

Get a very large box with high walls, so the kitten can't get in.

If you have a flat surface, higher than the kitten can jump, and you don't mind putting the litterbox on that surface, then the kitten couldn't use it.
