My cat who is nine years old has always been very healthy, no problems at all. Recently she has been sitting right in front of the heater even when it is warm throughout my whole apartment. Do you think she is just cold? Or could this be a sign that there is something wrong with her?

I know this question has potential to sound stupid but I was just wondering and my vet is out of town right now...

Thank you!!

Just as humans when getting up in age (senior citizens), they get cold easier. Nine years old for a cat is considered a 'senior catizen." Even so, most cats like the warmth, like basking in the sun, but then if it's too hot, get out and into the shade. Just as others have stated. Cats like to sit near to or on warm things, no matter what their age.

Not a stupid question at all. You are a good guardian to notice and be concerned. Any changes in behavior can be an indicator that something is wrong.

Since this may be a change in behavior. I think your cat is just getting older. No health problems, just age. But, it is a good idea to take your cat to the Vet, just in case. As when they age, they need more check-ups. Just like people do. Good luck.

I have 2 cats, one is 11 and the other 4. The older cats lives in front of the heater. It's just old age, my vet says he's fine. The 4 year old doesn't do this yet.

Yes. There could. But I doubt it. I have owned alot of cats in my life. To put it simply, cats are wierd. I've seen my cats stare at walls for HOURS for no apparent reason. I right now have a cat that will eat anything from Saltines to hamburger bits. Cats can do anything, anytime, for no reason at all. If you're truly worried, take your cat to a vet but other than that, I think your cat is just being a cat.

It is very normal for cats to do this. They just like the heat. For instance, my cat will sit on top of the heater, TV box, anything that is warm. But since the cold weather is coming in, she probably is just cold

If she is still eating, using the litterbox without problems or increased frequency, and still has a moist nose then she's pretty much healthy. Like humans when cats get older the skin gets a bit thinner and cold is percieved quicker. Just chalk it up to a healthy kitty enjoying her day.
Offer her a lap and let her use you for warmth and purr away

She's not a young kitty any more, so it could be that she is feeling the chill more than she used to. But if she has never done this before, take her for a check-up and tell the vet your concerns. He may suggest blood work, since your cat now qualifies as a 'senior'.

Good luck!

In the winter, both of our cats love to be anyplace extra-warm. Near the heat vents, on top of the dryer when it's running, or on our laps when we're watching tv. Maybe she's just finding out how nice and comfortable this can be.

if your cat is eating and drink ing and going to the bathroom normally and sitting by the heat is the only abnormal thing she is doing, she is just a heat hog! Probably! My cat is the same way sometimes I think he is going to catch on fire.

As my cats have gotten on in age, they have been more likely to hang out in warm places more often. Most cats adore warmth and will seek it out.
