Seriously hard core music works the best- get yourself into a zone before the race! Put on your head phones while you are warming up and get pysched by listening to your absolutely favorite music. "See" yourself powering out of the blocks and "see" yourself ahead of the other runners. The power of believing is half the battle to successful running! If you believe you can, you've got it made! Consider yourself at an advantage being "the chosen one" to do the blocks. Congratulate yourself for being trusted in that position and then go and listen to that wild music that will totally pump you up! Jump up and down, do some sprint outs to really warm up your muscles and when you're in the blocks, let that music play in your head and drown out the other runners. All you need to do is focus on your next runner and go when the gun goes off- forget the noise, the runners, the times, the pressure- just do it for you and feel how great it is to explode out of those blocks!!!

Good luck!

When I ran track there were a few things that got me pumped up before a race:
1 - Comroderie with my teammates. We would joke, talk about the other team (nothing viscious and not so they could hear!), stretch together, etc.
2 - Listening to music. I had a certain song rotation that would get me psyched up for the race. It was fast-paced and inspiring.
3- Memorizing the records. I memorized the school records and every time I stepped out on the track, I tried to get into the mindset that I would break that record.
Good luck!

It can be easy to get over-whelmed with the stress and pressure of the race. Look around at the starting line blocks...everyone is nervous. On the bus ride to the meet, take some deep breaths and imagine the start of the race and the explosiveness of your start. Relax. As you warm-up think of things that will make you smile or laugh. This can do two things...1. It'll turn that stress energy into running energy...and 2. You'll exude confidence as you show up relaxed to the start. Good luck!

well im a distance runner but the way i mediate before every race is that i isolate myself from everyone and just watch the other races going on. If you wanna pump yourself up you should listen to some lil jon songs or fort minor.

what works for me, is to always do the same things before every run. eat the same things, put on your uniform the same time before, tie your shoes the same way, etc. It helps me get in a zone.
Just before the run, I focus on breathing, and nothing else. Just think about the air going in and out. It helps me block out everything and just run.

properly once I run with my music and bypass united states teammates, we've a rule that we are no longer allowed to talk approximately working at any think approximately the loop, which helps take us out of the 2d slightly and distracts us from the soreness. i assume once you're on your individual you need to easily daydream or think of approximately prevailing races (approximately working quickly THEN, as antagonistic to the 2d)
