be a little uncomfortable for him. Is there any kind of ointment or powder or something I could use to help stop the chaffing, and releive any discomfort? Thanks!!

It isn't a hotspot. I know that for sure. It's strange because in his little armpit (I realize he doesn't have arms for all the snots out there, but when I say armpit everyone knows what I'm talking about) it's kind of moist. I think the first answer (spazzy ???) knows what I mean. His fur is very short there. BTW, why do people have to be so snobby sometimes?

the exact same thing happened to my dog.
since he fur around that area is usually fairly short, i put some vaseline on the spot and within 2 days, it was gone.
try it!
good luck! :)

My dog has the same problem. She's a Black Lab and she does have armpits! I took her to the Vet and he gave me a spray to use 2x daily. It did work a little bit, but she still keeps licking the same spot. I don't know what to do, I keep an eye on it to make sure that it doesn't get infected. She's had this problem for about 2 years now and she is almost 8 years old. Maybe it's some kind of nervous problem? It's not something seasonal, so it's not an allergy. I might try the Bag Balm, but I'm afraid that she will lick it off and maybe make her sick.

I'd try some Bag Balm ointment or some other "udder cream" formulation. There's a lot of them out there, but I'm most familiar with Bag Balm. Clean the area with a damp paper towel or washcloth before you start, then apply the ointment. Make sure and clean the area each time before you re-apply the ointment.

It is commonly called a "hot spot". Use a product like Lanacaine which will reduce the discomfort enough for the dog to leave it alone to heal. Keep it dry and clean. Put the cream (sparingly) on it in the morning and then in the evening. If you don't see improvement in one week, it is time to take your dog to the vet.

dogs don't have arms, or armpits for that matter. you may want to call and least ask a vet, it could be a serious skin problem.

My dog had the same problem also. we took her to our vet and he gave use this...liquid stuff that you put in her food. she had dry skin and she would lick and lick for hours. your dog may have scratched it somehow and he/she is trying to heal it up faster. i would give it a couple of days and if it's not any better i would consult your vet.

try plain talcum powder but check with the vet it could be a yeast infection, but the talcum could relieve the pain until you get to the vet
