Help with connecting TV/Video DVD Combi/Freeview?

I need help connecting my combined Video Recorder/ DVD Player to the following equipment: TV, Freeview Box. I have connected all the scart leads as per instructions but can't seem to tune the video/dvd player. Therefore all I can do at present is play dvd's. What could I be doing wrong?

is there 1 or 2 scarts on tv.

if only 1 then use that for the freeview, use coxial for the combi unit. BUT use a channel not just to manual tune in.

If 2 scarts then use av1 for combi and av2 for freeview, as av2 isn't much cop for videos.
