Is it before or after the academy. The reason I am asking is so that I can find a home in the area, or have one built hopefully while he is in the academy so that is will be ready or near ready when he gets out.

They assign after, but don't buy for a bit, rent till he is settled.
Normally your assignment is given upon graduation, but at times, he will also have to go though several months of field training after acadmey, which normally is in the same area but does not have to be.

don't rush into anything untill he is settled into a slot. Renting is fine for starting.

At least half way through the academy, he should know, but for the most part, he should already know even before he goes to the academy, so he will already know where he is going to be stationed in case he does not like the choice. Sometimes in the selection process they are given like 5 choices and by the end of the academy, they will have their answer..???

In my trooper class (not Texas) we didn't know until about 3 weeks from graduation. The needs of the state were first. I can say however, they did try to get you as close as possible. I got home quick.

No. each and each officer has his very own patrol direction so previously they employed you they might help you comprehend the place you have been needed. ultimately whilst the officer who's direction you wanted left you need to fairly flow to it see you later as somebody with seniority wasn't waiting for a similar direction.
