Check with AAA. We took a 4 day Grand Canyon trip which was great. I forget the exact name of the package but you drive to Williams, AZ, stay at a nice hotel there for a night...board the train to the Grand Canyon the next day (get first-class seating if possible), stay up in the Grand Canyon for 2 nights, then return to the hotel by train and leave the next day. It's a great introduction to the park.

YOu have to be a member of AAA to access their services. The name of the historic railway is Grand Canyon Railway and the station is right next to the hotel in Williams, AZ.

if you go to grand canyon railroad website
http://www thetrain.com
they have great travel packages some of then are in conjunction
with Amtrak,(see amtrak.com)
you can depart daily on Amtrak's southwest chief to Williams
Jct (arrive early am the next morning) -then the GCRR has
a shuttle that meets all Amtrak trains. some of the packages
have you staying overnight in Williams
then then taking the GCRR train to the Grand canyon..
the next day
I did this myself and I had fun (my only mistake
is that I stayed in my coach seat and didnt leave it
expect for dinner in the dinning car)
also its sometimes hard to sleep in coach
you could get a sleeper (its a bit costy though!)
