It is not spite - it is more likely Separation Anxiety. And remember that everything is a chew toy to your dog.

First: You didn't say how old the dog is...
Second: Are you away from the dog alot?
Third: Some dogs just gotta chew,and they love there master and chewing on there stuff makes them feel closer.

Most of the time they are just bored and miss you not being home. When ever you leave them, make sure you pet them and them give them something old of yours to chew on and they should leave everything else alone. When you get home remove the item,and give it back to them the next time you leave, they will get the idea after a few trys.
