how can you distinguish good from bad

You don't need God to distinguish good from bad. God doesn't tell a person the difference between good and bad. That is part of your education from the time you are born. It doesn't take long until you instinctively know the difference. Then it just a matter of free will. You know what evil is. Only you can decide if you will be evil.

God (the Father) may define 'good and bad' differently than man does. (1 Samuel 16:7 comes to my mind immediately). Most of us would have trouble keeping self on the 'straight and narrow) here presently.
