I had a high school similiar to the one you are talking about. All the different ethnicities sat together at lunch and then the caucasian people sat in stereotypical groups such as jocks and nerds etc..

There are several steps to deal with racism. The one I found works best is to speak up and become an advocate of cultural understanding and tolerance.

If you are willing to be a cultural advocate you will have something awesome to put on your resumes and college apps. Also you will help educate people in your school so hopefully racism will decrease (keep in mind that when you first bring it up it'll probably rise but then once people are over the shock of being educated things will change)

How do you do it? There are several ways. Talk to a teacher, school counselor, or other adult you trust. Tell them you would like to change things at your school. You can start culture clubs. You can create classroom presentations that present stereotypes and the truths behind them. You can bring in speakers from different cultures and have them speak on racism. You can have a cultural appreciation assembly. You should also request to speak at the teacher's meeting (sorry forget what it's called) and tell them that there is a lot of racism going on and you'd like their support in the quest to raise cultural tolerance. Tell them steps you are willing to take and be professional so they will take you seriousally, it also helps to have an adult support you. You can offer steps for the teachers to take such as cultural comptence training or making the school a racism free zone (this means zero tolerance for racist remarks, automatic discipline). And be proud of yourself and your culture. Know your culture and educate yourself on it so when people say ignorant things you will know the truth instead of just feel that it is wrong.
Remember you are doing the right thing!
