hi, so basically here's my question: I'm a freshman in highschool and the only thing that i had ever heard about drinking and that type of thing came from my parents and DARE before this year. i really just want to know how much of the stuff they tell me is true i guess? like will one beer actually do that much (if any) damage?

im not going 2 like go out and drink or anything if you say that it does. im not easily influence by peer pressure haha barely at all. but a buuunch of my friends drink fairly regularly...particularly the ones that are at least a year older than me & i wanted to know if i should be concerned about their heath? or if it really wont effect them much besides the hangovers the next morning..

alright so basically the point of this answer is to point out the point of the DARE program.

for starters, DARE is a program run by the police department. since teenage drinking is illegal, they have to do whatever to make it look like it will kill you. when in fact, a few drinks here and there won't do much damage.

just don't go overboard, and don't drive. i've drank a few times and i'm perfectly fine. same with my friends. drinking 1 beer is not going to get you trashed (at least it shouldn't). if you regularly drink until you either vomit or blackout, then you will want to stop because then it can cause real damage.

basically, if you're going to drink. use common sense. even if you think you're ok to drive, you're probably not. so don't risk it, it's not worth it. if you go to a party, bring condoms. because if you happen to. . . you'll want some type of protection. even if you think "i would never do that without protection" things tend to change while drunk.

as long as your friends don't get trashed really hardcore regularly they should be fine. with the exception of the possible beer belly they might get after time.

but heres another tidbit of advice. if you go to a party, after introducing yourself to the host or acknowledging them or whatever. first thing you ask, is where the bathroom is. because, trust me on this one, you will have to pee really badly after a couple of drinks. even if you don't normally pee that much. it will be every half hour to an hour. and if you're drinking in a pool, just go in the pool. i watched a friend fall off the pool ladder trying to climb back in from going the bathroom.

It is time again proved that excessive drinking is very very harmful for human being. However, if you consume Alcohol in moderate quantity like 2 x 70 ml.(2 pegs) will not harm you and on the contrary will do very good to your system. But the problem is once you start indulging in this, there is no stopping you because our brain gets a signal of intoxication and involuntarily you will be dragged into regular drinking habit which at an cost you must avoid. It is established alcohol is only substance that directly enters into the blood stream without undergoing any changes and absorbed directly. So you get the high. So the secret is drink up to 2 pegs and stop beyond this point. My experience is that if you can do this you are the most successful human being. I am glad to tell you that I am one of them. Good luck and Cheers for your health, wealth and prosperity !!!

I am a recovering alcoholic. I started drinking when I was 14, and wasted the next 23 years on drinking and drugs. This does not mean I think nobody should drink, because some people can and have no problem with it. Be very careful, studies show that people who drink regularly before they turn 21 are up to 40% more likely to develop alcoholic drinking patterns later in life. Be very careful!! I hope this helps answer your question.

it does kill braincells, lowers your inhibitions, makes you dehydrated, bloats you from carbs and unusable calories, one single beer will not really hurt you but one a day will or one single episode of binge drinking. there is alcoholism to worry about, cirrhosis of the liver (deadly my grandpa had it),underage drinking tickets to think of, what your parents will do if they find out you drank, alcohol can affect you and many ppl dont know they are drunk when they are they act stupid and try to drive and end up killing ppl . If you give in once to one beer then it will be easier the next time so hold your ground. You sound smart to be worried go with that feeling oh yeah and those ppl you are friends with now probably wont be around you when you become an adult so who cares what they say now

Teenage drinking in America has become a real problem. You should listen to your parents they are telling you the truth. when i was 18 i lost 3 close friends they only had a few beers when they decide togo for a drive never thinking they were drunk. If your gonna drink stay where your at or call your parents to come get you yes you will be in trouble but atleast you'll live to see another day. here's you a website that will tell you if your drunk it's a bac calculator . just please listen to your parents

Great question. Underage drinking is generally a bad idea for a host of reasons. Too often people that age don't monitor how much they are drinking, drink too much and too fast, and that produces consequences that range from horrible vomiting, headaches, and the shakes, to car accidents, alcohol poisoning and death.

And yes, it does fry your brain cells, and once they're fried, the bad news is, they don't regenerate. They're gone forever, period.

No, one beer won't do any damage, but you'd be very smart to wait until you don't have to drink that one beer in secret. There's no rush to start drinking, trust me.

Best of luck to you.

A lot of the things DARE and health classes say are either blown out of proportion, or completely false. If you're gonna start drinking, make sure you want to and you're not just being pressured into it, and just be safe and all will be good.

In the middle ages they didn't drink water they drank beer and wine EVERY DAY with every thing. they obviously survived. getting drunk is fine but not hammered experiment man just go get drunk. the first time you are going to over do it. you will get traaaaaaashed, people will either draw on you shave you worse yet duct tape or saran wrap you to something. wich is great because you can do this to the noobs when yuor just drunk and they are toasted. have fun man the only word of advise you should listen to is dont drink and drive thats basically the only thing that can hurt you or someone else while drinking. good luck and happy almost st. patty's day.

hangovers are bullshit you only get them if you get completely trashed. as for binge drinking regularly you can hurt your liver but only after a long while. one beer wont get you drunk but if you are smaller (being a freshman you probably are) and if you have never drank before your alcohol limit will be low and you probably will feel a buzz however you probably would get drunk off 3 or 4. If you are unsure ive found this site to be pretty acurate when i had to visit it after i got written up for drinking http://muweb.millersville.edu/~muhs/resources/drinkwheel.php
