I can think of no reason why God would want that. People came up with that idea, and I don't believe it has anything to do with what God would want.

Most of the things that God had his followers do were to be use as a "prophetic pattern" if you will.

The animal sacrifices let the Israelites know that they were sinners and needed a savior.
The types of sacrifices were also scrutinized, because the ultimate sacrifice was to be perfect, thus winning back for mankind that which Adam lost. That was life in perfection that would be everlasting here on the earth.

"And when YOU present a blind [animal] for sacrificing: “It is nothing bad.” And when YOU present a lame [animal] or a sick one: “It is nothing bad.”’”
“Bring it near, please, to your governor. Will he find pleasure in you, or will he receive you kindly?” -Malachi 1:8

"“And YOU have brought something torn away, and the lame one, and the sick one; yes, YOU have brought [it] as a gift. Can I take pleasure in it at YOUR hand?” -Malachi 1:13

"However, when Christ came as a high priest of the good things that have come to pass, through the greater and more perfect tent not made with hands, that is, not of this creation, 12 he entered, no, not with the blood of goats and of young bulls, but with his own blood, once for all time into the holy place and obtained an everlasting deliverance [for us]. 13 For if the blood of goats and of bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who have been defiled sanctifies to the extent of cleanness of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of the Christ, who through an everlasting spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works that we may render sacred service to [the] living God?" -Hebrews 9:11-14

Think about the wisdom that was brought about in the very first prophecy at Genesis 3:15. Just after the human fall into sin and death Almighty God brought about a solution immediately.
We are very deep in the time of the end and the full benefit of that perfect sacrifice of Christ Jesus is about to be brought to fulfillment.

To give you a simplified answer. The reason there is so much animal sacrifice in the Old Testament is because the only way to atone for sin is with blood. In essence the animal took the place of the person who was guilty and it’s death blotted out the transgression. If you think about it sacrificing animals is not for God’s benefit but so the person is clean of there transgressions. I know it’s sounds cruel but look at it this way, if humans were not so cruel to start with there would have been no need for the sacrifice at all.

Well this is a tough question too answer but I shall try. When you speak of the Omnipotent Goddess/God concept you are not speaking of one of the many "Gods" who required sacrifices. These "Gods" are actually thought of as lesser Forms of the Greater Goddess/God concept. The Omnipotent needs nothing from us and actually gives all too us.
Also understand in many cultures the animal "sacrificed" was often shared with the community at large as part of a great feast or celebration. The sacrifice was of the loss of an otherwise healthy animal's vibrant spirit to a lesser God/Goddess in the hopes that the Deity in question would grant favors to the community at large.

Animal sacrifices were a type of Christ. People would sacrifice an animal in faith that God would absolve their sin. God eventually sacrificed His most precious Lamb, His Son our Savior Jesus Christ to pay for the sin of the world. The issue here isn't whether His ways make sense to us or not. The issue is whether we know Him and are known by Him. It is a spiritual awakening that will not come from sorting it all out. He opens our spiritual eyes and then we see. We won't always understand everything, but as long as we insist on knowing before we believe, we are trapped in the temporal plane.

Truth does not lie in a book. It never has and never will. Truth is personal otherwise there would only be One. We are all unique, like fingerprints no two of us are identical.

What we do share in is a collective consciousness. Picture each one of us like a thimble full of an Ocean. Our make-up even though as minute as a thimble is no less than what the entire Ocean is.

God is the Ocean and we are as much of a part of God as God is in each one of us. Source Energy. We can choose to believe and be whatever we want. And that will be our Truth.

There is a movie called the Secret that may bring greater freedom to many.

The things of the Bible are only that, open for interpretation. On more of a metaphysical understanding the Bible reveals wonderful information that will allow us to co-create in a magnificent way that will be beneficial to all.

Know the Truth, for the Truth shall set you FREE!

You totally miss the point.

Why would you "sacrifice" an animal to feed your children?

Why would you teach your children to prepare food?

Hey, why feed the kiddies at all. Some parents just wrap their kids up in plastic and shove them in the closet. I am sure you believe God should be like that.

Read the scriptures on how to prepare foods and you might learn that, for the times, they were very advanced sanitation procedures that probably kept the majority of people who worshiped the Lord God alive longer than those who did not.

There is no logical reason for God to be omnipotent. In fact there is no logical reason for people to only believe in one God, except that it brings together all the revenue to one stream as the cash being divided up amongst many Gods religions. To fantastical having a omnipotent God, hence why I have avoided religion.

Many primitive tribes sacrifice animals to their gods and Jews were no different. All that theological gobbledygook about omnipotence and stuff was invented later.

I'm certainly no biblical expert, but I think that its the act of giving up something that's important to you. During the time that the bible was written, animals were a source of food and a bartering tool. Its basically the same as tithing today -- the fact that you're willing to give something up, even if god doesn't necessarily *need* it.

That was along time ago. That was for the Israelites to show that they were different from other religions. Now, i dont' think it's even legal to sacrifice animals. I follow the new testemants, not the old.
