The new cell phone law doesn't take effect until 07/08. (more than a year away)

If the tow truck has your car already lifted or loaded (flatbed), they will sometimes give you the opportunity to pay a "drop fee" on the spot and get your car. USUALLY, you can wave goodbye as it is hauled to a storage yard.

Manda May - just loooove that name/ lots of places it is illegal to talk on phone while driving. It should be a law everywhere as they cause more accidents than drunks and teenagers combined with all other causes. In other words, those phones are No 1 cause of accidents in USA. If you walk up and your car has been lifted, then they are required (Authorized) to tow so they get paid when you pay to get it back. If the car has not been lifted, they are obligated to agree on a price with you on the spot and let you have it back. They can require cash and if you don't have cash on the spot, the car can be lifted before you get cash, so again - you lose. The guy has to be paid for coming to get the car as that is one half of his job.

I know where I live NY, you'll get "Popped" for NOT using "Hands free" on the cell phone when driving. If your car is about to be towed, and he did'nt get the "MEAT HOOKS" on it yet, ya might be able to "skate", once the hooks are on, It's theirs, and they are under the umbrella of the NYPD. You better get your car back FAST, they get destroyed in the impound yard, you tell the slug at the counter about it, he does'nt look up, and hands you a claim form that get lost in an office somewhere.

You can talk on a 'hands free' cell phone legally.

If they've got you hooked up, they can take your car away. They'd be sleazy to do it, but they can.
