You should keep a balance. If you feel miserable you should rest, eat chicken soup with extra garlic, and drink plenty of fluids. Yarrow tea or Red Raspberry leaf tea will help you sweat out a cold.
Here's a good home remedy:
In a cup of hot water add: 1 Tblsp honey, 1 Tblsp apple cider vinegar, 1 Tblsp molasses, 1 Tblsp wheat germ oil + 1/4 to 1 tsp cayenne pepper [whatever you can handle]. Drink this as much as 3 x/day. It is strengthening, nourishing and very healing and should also help break up congestion.

Avoid mucus producing foods like dairy, chocolate, white bread, and red meat. And stay away from all forms of processed sugar. The amount of sugar in one can of soda pop is enough to shut down your immune system for an entire day.

Working out when you feel run down can compromise your immune system further. Your body is trying to tell you something. Listen to it and take care of yourself. A car cannot run on an empty tank and neither can you.

I'd say you should drink some lemonaid with a touch of honey, then keep warm to sweat it out. It won't help completely, but it will shorten the time of having the cold.
