While you should continue giving your baby formula until 12 months, it is a myth that not a drop of cow's milk should be introduced until that time. Cow's milk has a different taste than formula, and a different chemical make up. Children who have had absolutely no exposure to it until 1 year often have trouble switching immediately. It is perfectly fine, as long as your pediatrician agrees that your child is healthy, to begin offering small amounts of cow's milk around 9-10 months. 4-6 ounces of cow's milk can be offered in a sippy cup, but do avoid placing it in a bottle, as this will just make weaning more difficult. Don't worry if your baby doesn't care for the milk at first, it can take 10-20 offerings of a new taste before an infant will become acclimated and really be willing to try it.

Also, just a bit of advice, don't warm the milk. Not only does this destroy nutrients if done in the microwave, but it will be much easier to get your child to drink cold cow's milk if she's never had it warm.

As to the issue of toddler-formulas, which are those made for children up to 24 months, these are definately NOT harmful for your child, and do have more nutrients than cow's milk. If your baby is happy with the toddler formula (Stage 2 Formulas), and you can afford it, it's a better choice than cow's milk!

Good Luck!

Well, strictly speaking they are right. You can give your child normal cow's milk from a year old.
However, I gave my daughter formula and progress formula after as I felt that it would give my child vitamins that she may not get from her food if she didn't get the required 5-a-day on a particular day. However, one day we didn't have formula and at that stage she was about 2 then, so we gave her cows milk and she loved it!
This is an important question and one that must be thought through carefully. At this stage there's no right or wrong answer. But just make sure that noone tells you what TO DO. Hope this helps.

You can start him on cows milk at 1 year old but you should not just totally cut out the formula. Just give him cows milk, and other whole foods, and formula if he is still hungry.

Toddlers really don't eat a wide varriety of foods at that age (peas and carrots here. and softsandwich there) and it is very easy for them to NOT get certain vitamins and minerals they need. Formula is a more complete form of nutrition and while he can drink cows milk he should probablt keep on the formula for a little while longer to be sure he is getting everything he needs.

You can start weaning about a week or two before his birthday. Start with 3 parts formula to 1 part milk, and when he gets used to that, gradually increase the milk while decreasing the formula. Use whole milk - little kids need the fat in the milk to grow properly. At two years old or older you can change to 2%.

I am a mother myself with a son who is 13 months.
Our doctor told us that it's fine to begin feeding a baby cows milk at about one year. You may also continue feeding the baby formula. My son drinks both homomilk and formula everyday. However until your baby is about two you can reduce the amount of formula and increase milk intake.
It's fine if your child has one bottle of milk a day and then the rest of his/her bottles are formula. Also fortified infant cereal can be continued until 2 years and up aswell.
So feel fine to give your child milk and formula at the same time.
Hope this helps!

Yes, it's okay to introduce it after 12 months, but, the longer you wait, the better it is for him. Also, always give them whole milk (4%).

If he is a picky eater, then formula would still be beneficial to him. If he eats a well balanced diet, then he's probably getting enough nutriets and vitamins from the food.

Hope that helps.

supply some in a pitcher with a meal. i does not do it in a bottle. via twelve months you % them to be often off the bottle. via getting the youngster used to it in a bottle you will extend that. I enable my son have cow's milk around 9 months with food, it wasn't a alternative for his breastmilk which made up maximum of his intake nevertheless.
