If you do it right it will not be bad for your hair... I've been straightening my hair for 5 years now and my hair is not damaged at all... in the begining I was using a really cheap straightener and it would damage my hair a bit...but since I've been using a good straightener and straightening oil... it has not done any damage to my hair... you should try it... I love it!!!

1. Depends on your hair
2. Depends on your straightener
3. Depends how often you straighten you hair.

I love straight hair and i straighten mine everyday. But it does cause split ends because i do it so often.
To help with that you can get some GOOD shampoo to protect your hair from the damage.

Also, make sure you get a really good straightener. It really is worth the money

Yes unfortunately straightening our hair is bad because it drys our ends and it frys it real bad but there is an up point to I have curly hair and hate it so before I straighten my I use a serum called citre shine anti friz serum when we use this it burns the oil not our hair without that we burn our hair you can also use Redkin that is a good brand and use a reconstructive shampoo to help your hair stay looking healthy if you decide to

Heat in general is bad. However, there are products you can use to protect your hair from the heat. Paul Mitchell hair serum is really good. Don't straightened your hair dry I feel that it breaks your hair more. Straighten it when it's slightly damp not dripping with water.

It does dry out your hair and damage it. Us curly girls are lucky because in general our hair is healthier because we don't use hot tools on it all the time, but every now and then is not bad. You could use a heat protecting product before you do it and make sure to condition like crazy to get the moisture back in it. If you do it too much, your hair will break and look pretty nasty.

In a word.. Yes. But if you really want to do it, make sure you research the best method. If you have have bleached / colour treated hair - dont do it - its too risky.
Invest in a GHD hair straightner instead. They are about $300. You can use it once every 4 days and it keeps your hair perfectly straight (provided you stay away from moistre).

Good luck! :)

Unfortunately your mom is right. Although it does damage your hair a lot there are ways to fight it.
There are products you can use, such as sprays that you put in your hair before you apply heat, this protects the hair from heat damage.
It is not garunteed, it really depends on the condition and type of your hair.

excessive heat styling is bad for you hair but make sure you take care of it- use a good shampoo and conditioner, find a good Ionic straightener which may cost up to $200 bucks but is TOTALLY and i mean TOTALLY worth it! I have one and i LOVE it! i only really need to use it every other day cause it does such a great job. and makes my hair silky and shiny.
