Notice that "forever" (eternity) can be condidtional:

Exodus 21:6 Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.

"aion" is the greek word often translated as "eternity", but it can be conditional

Mathew 13:39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world (aion); and the reapers are the angels.

Notice God is only immortal:

1 Timothy 6:15-17

15. Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

16. Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

17. Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy

another example of forever
Jude 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

In Exodus 21:6, "For ever" means basically "for the entire duration of this time [span]" which means, for all intents and purposes, until the death does them part. It is obvious that the time span being referred to is their time of their life on earth. The word used is owlam (probably I mispelled it) and it can mean "old," "long," "ancient," "always," "continually," and even "indefinite." So it depends on the context.

In Matthew 13:39 the "end of the world" means "completion of this world (or age)". It too is another "for the duration" meaning and the duration depends on the context.

1Tim 6:15-17 is off topic. Yes, it is true that only God is immortal and that He is the only one who can give us immortality.
(see these verses for instance:
Romans 2:6-7 Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
1Cor 15:52-54 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
2Ti 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel: )

In the last verse, Jude 1:7 "eternal" is "aionios" (again, I might have mispelled it) which means "without beginning and end, that which always has been and always will be" or "never to cease", or "everlasting" depending on the context.

In general, when we say things like "for the duration" or "for the time being" or "at this time" you have to look at the context to see just how long of a time we are referring to. You have given three examples of different phrases and in different contexts; so it really is not alright for you to try to lump them together as if they might be the same thing. However, they are related and I honestly believe that my detailed explanations are the exact same thing that any one would have come up with on their own if they just read the verses in the context that they are presented.
