Do you wait until they have a solid comprehension of God or is it something you start as early as possible? Or do you not even pray at all with your kids?

I think it's vitally important that you inculcate prayer into a child's life from, literally, Day One. Perhaps they don't quite comprehend the whole God business, but having a prayer life will set the foundation for a strong relationship to God in the later years.

If I had it to do over again I would have started praying the moment I realized I was pregnant. The first words the child heard would have been a prayer of gratitude.

There’s not much positive I can say about the fundamentalist church where I grew up, but I am sure it was the example my mother set a as CHRISTian that helped me find my way back.

It’s so important for parents to live the Christ example they want to nurture in their children. I believe the seed is sown by the parents first, not the church, or at least it should be.

The day they are born!
Ok, well that would mean praying "over" them--but "with" them so that they understand we are praying, I pray every night over them as babies and as they grow, eventually I ask them to pray with me, and they love to. I help them to pray for people and wisdom and show them how reverant we are to be during prayer--and how God loves to hear our prayers. I think my first born was about 2 and a half when she started to say her own prayer after I prayed with her everynight--but I am not sure....But yes, I pray with them from day one! I still put my hands on my youngest who is a toddler everynight and pray over him....then I pray with my older two and we all take turns praying out loud.

I started praying for my daughter from the second I knew I was pregnant. After she was born I prayed with her from that minute on. She is now 23 and we still pray together

I really like Ed's answer and believe it is viable. I think praying with them isn't based on their understanding. It is fueled by the Holy Spirit. I've been taught that there is no "junior" Holy Spirit. He can relate to us at any age.

I think that as soon as possible (day one...would be good.)

A child is never to young to be invited into prayer.

Brainwashing. Getting them indoctrinated before they're old enough to even understand the words they're parroting. You're an adult, you get to make your own choices, why can't you let them grow up and make theirs?

I prayed aloud when they were still in the womb. We prayed in front of them when they were babies, and helped them join in when they asked to.
