My new doctor prescribed Trileptal for depression. My understanding is this is an epilepsy drug sometimes prescribed for manic depression? Has anyone heard of using it for regular depression or for OCD? Thanks.

Yes it is a derivative of valproic acid or Epival. Which is used for treating epilepsy and bipolar disorder. It also helps to control my daughters Tourettes. Tourettes is strongly related to OCD and OCD is one of the traits. I know that in her situation it does control her tics, hers sensory issues and OCD that are all part of her tourettes. So though I have not heard of it being used to treat depression, it could certainly be used to treat OCD.

It could turn out to be an excellent medicating for you. Just a quick word of advice. Watch what you eat, like many of these medications, they can cause weight gain.

OH and it is NOT addictive, habit forming or anything like that!!!
