Click Start, drag pointer up to Run and click on Run. Type in these letters: cmd. Now a dos screen will appear. See where the line keeps blinking? Type in the following. chkdsk/f and press Enter. You will be told that chkdsk cannot run while Windows is still up and would you like it to run the next time you boot up the computer. Type Yes and press Enter. Now reboot the computer and chkdsk will run.

Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Defragmenter. Click on that and there you go.

Assuming that you have XP. XP does not have scandisk.
