On Friday's for lunch I always have two sushi rolls, sometimes three. They are very small. I often have salmon and avacado, or prawn and avacado. Is this alright for me to eat as i am trying to lose weight but ADORE sushi and find it very filling! I hear its good, is once a week (2-3 rolls) ok?

Sushi can be fattening, but it certainly does not have to be. Making sensible decisions is what it is all about. http://www.sushifaq.com has a large section with the nutritional value of many sushi items and I suggest checking it out if you are interested. With two to three of the salmon & avocado rolls you are pushing 600-900 calories (see below) because the avocado can be fattening, and salmon is also a particularly fatty fish (although at least it is heart friendly fat). Also, rolls can vary greatly depending on fillings and the methodology of the itamae (sushi chef).
Here are a couple of common rolls.

Baseline calories in an entire roll:
Salmon & Avocado Roll 304 Calories
California Roll 255 Calories
Kappa Maki (cucumber roll) 136 Calories
Spicy Tuna Roll 290 Calories

If you want a greatly expanded list of information on more rolls and sushi items, as well as carbs, grams of fat, protein, etc, you should check out:

The sushi is OK but that avocado is the culprit with all those calories. Try different Rolls that don't have the avocado. Personally I like the Rolls that have the Tabika eggs ( like Salmon eggs, only real small) Then for hours after you eat them you can suck out a tiny egg from between your teeth and crunch it with your incisors and get a burst of flavor.

Your grandfather i'm assuming is in touch approximately uncooked fish, and not approximately white rice. :-) humorous, somebody out of your era might in all hazard think of that white rice makes the sushi undesirable for you. besides, this is appropriate for eating through fact the fish for sushi is quite sparkling and is continuously saved at a low adequate temperature. The so observed as "possibility zone" for nutrition is 40-one-a hundred thirty five stages fahrenheit. this suggests that for nutrition to be secure, it could be the two under 40-one stages, or have an inner temperature of a minimum of a hundred thirty five stages, continuously. Sushi follows this requirement through fact is saved under 40-one stages the completed time between whilst it fairly is caught and additionally you devour it.

White rice can be some unnecessary carbs. I've seen that in some places you can replace the white rice for brown rice (rich in fiber) making the roll healthier.

depends, cooked eel, good, raw shellfish or cooked shellfish BAD BAD BAD........ sushi just means fish and rice...... raw fish can be dangerous. and shell fish are bottom feeders and if they have any bacteria you will eat it..... like shrimp or lobster......... sushi rolls are great....... I only eat vegetarian ones and when I go to sushi bar, I eat cooked eel, cooked fish even though I love the raw.... Bad for you YES

Sushi is definitely not bad for you, in moderation. Sashimi is probably better, no rice.

i think that the onlything that would cause a problem is the rice, just because of the carbs but i think that if you just eat sashimi so that you dont have any rice bu the fish is good for you
