Is there medication out there for depression that doesnt make you gain weight?

Well, many have weight gain as a possible side effect.

But I've taken Effexor, Lexapro, Zoloft, and Cymbalta, and I didn't gain weight from any of them.

Though I did get liver damage from Cymbalta and/or Rozerem. Just because you don't gain weight doesn't mean it can't hurt you another way.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about Wellbutrin. That stuff was EVIL!!!! It made me super-jittery and nervous and sick--it's a central nervous system STIMULANT, not a regular anti-depressant. It's not, like, an SSRI or an atypical antidepressant. I might have lost weight on it if it hadn't driven me nuts and made me feel all spinny and weak and headachey.

I don't like stimulants in general, but if you do OK with them, Wellbutrin could be an option. But you'll have to check with a dr.
But if it helps you in general, a little weight gain is a small price to pay for relief from depression.

Yes, they have come a long way in modifying anti-depressants. There are a lot of new drugs out there to treat depression with, and depending on your other symptoms and general health, a family doctor or psychiatrist could place you on something. I was on Lexapro for a while and that one doesn't cause weight gain.

They all cause weight gain to a lesser or greater degree, steer clear of amitriptyline, it is the worst! I put on 8 stone (112lbs) when I was on a massive dose over an 18 month period.

yes but most of them make you loose your sex drive. Also keep in mind that most drugs that make you gain weight only do that because they increase your metablolism using your food faster making you hungery so you eat more. So if you keep your diet the same you should actually loose weight instead of gain, but most people don't know this and so they eat more and blame it on the meds.

Plenty of them. Different ones do different things to different people, but I have GENERALLY heard that paxil makes people gain, zoloft makes them lose. I lost weight on zoloft and wellbutrin (esp. zoloft).
