I don't believe it's the only thing we can be sure of. But I know that eternity is a pretty long time...and I believe that we get to choose where we want to spend forever when this brief life is over. Besides, what do you gain from doing everything in the moment when there's a future you should invest in? Something to think about, hope it makes sense.
Peace

Here and now is very important but only because it is a stepping stone to the after life. If we don't learn while we are here, what happens on the other side? I think we will have to keep coming back until we get it right.

I agree, the present is more important than the afterlife. In other words a bird in hand is worth two in the bush. Also even if one does worry about the afterlife, it is what they do at present that will get them there.

That is what Buddhists believe. Think about it, if you regret your past or worry about the future and whether you will get into heaven or not, how can you possibly be living in the present moment and enjoying life? Try clearing your mind of all thought and you will see how difficult it is not to bethinking about the past or future! Just live life with joy, love and compassion and we can deal with the after life when we get there!

Of course.

Some people spend their whole life on wondering what's over that rainbow.

Perhaps the saddest thing is that most people try to do the right things now so they will be 'rewarded' when the time comes, rather than just trying to live a decent life.

Absolutely...because it is the "hear and now" that will affect the afterlife. I know that is not what you meant, but from a Christian perspective that was the only way for me to answer it honestly.

It doesn't even compare. It is not anywhere near the same but, it's like asking what's more important - the rest of your life or that nanosecond 30 years ago? What? It does not even make sense.

I believe in heaven but I recognize that it is indeed just a belief.

This life is the guarantee and I refuse to waste it in hopes of something better coming along.
