are films a sin? are books a sin? is art? where does this end?
Video games are part of the creative spectrum (though most people will say they are horrible time wasters) but think about the thought and time that was invested in the first place. Sure, they are not Picasso or Michaelangelo type of art, but a from a creative expression.
Are humans creative? Yes, but is that a sin in the eyes of god? Well, then let's question all art that what created to serve religious purposes (churches, painting, bible..etc).
Are humans violent? Of course we are! We are part of nature and nature is violent. It's civilisation that has created rules so we can all live together and not kill each other over a slice of bread, which does have its advantages not to having to fight every day.
Does that bore us eventually? Of course it will! How are we supposed to part of nature and are not allowed to follow our instincts anymore? - Video Games are a great way to SIMULATE those instincts and do what society forbids us to do.
Maybe they have been created for a reason. To give a us a place to vent and escape too.
If it is a sin to pretend then we all will rot in hell for something.

It's just another form of entertainment like movies and music. What's the difference besides the interaction factor? No more or less of a sin then any other entertainment form.
