We believe the concept of linear time, as you perceive it, is illogical and that this isn't the only state of existence which one can take rebirth in. A mind can take rebirth as ANY sentient being on any world... so when this world is about to cease supporting life, people will start taking rebirths, according to their karma and state of mind at death in other realms of existence, other planets, other universes, etc. When other worlds die out, the same happens that people can take rebirth here.

Like Spock said, "...only human arrogance" would declare that this is the only state of existence or sentient life form out there.

Buddhism explains 6 realms of rebirths. God, Asura, Human, Animal, Hungry ghost, and hell realms. So when someone passes away in one realm, he/she may be reborn back in the same realm, or in another. The increase in human population is explained by more beings reborn in the human realm.

Increased population is due to man's ignorance and selfishness. It's all fine and dandy that people want children of their own but there are so many children that are unloved in this world. I would rather adopt several children than add to the world's already overpopulated planet. A child doesn't have to come from my body to feel like my own.

Buddhism explains about the Samsara circle. That is every being is having births and dying, this goes as a cycle and all of us are facing this situation.(As humans, animals ,gods, according to our Karma)

Lord Buddha has explained the way of escaping from this cycle.
We have to do it step by step.Lord Buddha has shown the way we have to follow it and understand the truth. The full response of it is in our hand not with some super natural power.

For further details refer Buddhist books and web sites.
