I purchased a Bengal kitten this weekend and brought her home. I have been trying to make her comfortable but I have 1 problem. I set up her litter box and she has not used it on her own. I have never had this problem with any of my other cats before so I dont know what to do. Last night I had her on my bed with me and she urinated on it. I took her to her litter box and put her in it and she did her business. I thought she would now know this is her bathroom but I went home today and there was nothing new in the box. The breeder that I got her from was using wood pellets and I am using a actual litter. Could it be that she does not know what the litter is? How do I get her to use the box, it is not like a dog that you can potty train. PLEASE HELP!!

you bet, she's not familiar with the litter...

Start her off with whatever the breeder used the gradually add your brand to it eventually eliminating the original product. She'll catch on.

I think what I'd do is leave her in the bathroom with the litterbox, some food and water for the day, so that she has no where else to go if she needs to. No towels, blankets or even newspaper, so she knows that the only place to go is in the box. You could give that a go for a few days then let her out during the day and see what happens. Cats are usually pretty adaptable, but if she still isn't getting it, maybe try switching to the wood pellets the breeder was using, then gradually, add real litter to it in increments until it is all litter. Is she messing anywhere else in the house? Sometimes, cats will urinate on their owners beds for entirely different reasons, possibly because she's in a new environment.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

Your doing the right thing with taking her to the litter box. Trying wood chips wouldn't hurt but first before u do that. Carry around a little squirt bottle of water and everytime she goes out side the box spray her face with it but only as shes doing it. If you find the ness after shes done it theres not much u can do because she probably doesn't remember it. Every like 10-15 min. brign her to her litter box take her front paws and dig in it, im not sure why but htis works if u do it repeatedly a couple times). or when she wakes up, or eats, drinks, finishes playing. So if this doesn't work (and give it a wile) u can try woodchips. Also one good thing fo rwood chips is u can get liek cedar chips or somehting wiht a good smell! But just like a puppy you need patience when teaching your cat or anyother animal anyhitng. Remember its just a baby and its not going ot learn anyhitng in a day.
Hope this Works and good luck

It is very unusual for a inside cat not to use the litter box.I brought home an older cat after my son's cat died from a bladder obstruction. The cat had come from the Humane society, and taken in by the vet until a home could be found(he is a beautiful LARGE long haired cat).He had never been introduced to a litter box but went right to it after i showed him where it was.If all else fails, use a mixture of wood chips and cat litter.GOOD LUCK.

You take the cat to the litter box and let it get a feel of the litter. Run her paws back and fourth through the litter. Tell her that she is supposed to use the bathroom there. Then she will know where to go.

She is not used to doing her beexwax in a box, so she goes where she is. You should put her in a small cardbard box with the litter box and she'll have no place to go except what you gave to her. That's what I did when I got my 2 kittens. Hope that it works out for you!

I never had any problems potty training kittens. I would suggest that you put them in the litter box each time after they eat. Once they have used the litter box they should smell their own scent and catch on to the concept. Good Luck!

Hi! I would say probably use the same litter that she used with the breeder! Just because she knows the scent and she will know that that's where she is " supposed " to go! I hope that helped and best of luck!

i had that problem, my cat wee'd on my sofa bed and carpit, but i think it could be to do with familuarity!if thats how u spell it! i found a lil trick, put her hed close to the poo or wee close enough for her to smell but not to touch her nose, then that will signal that is the place to go potty!

make her urinate in the box at least once. the scent will stick and she will smell it and pee there. also be sure to remove the pee scent from your bed or else she will keep going tinkle there.
