I live in a cul de sac, we all have kids the same age, and she sits out front all day with the other women and I know from hearing it from others that she makes up terrible lies about me and my family. I love my house and my lot and don't want to have to lose all that because of one evil woman who has nothing better to do then talk smack about me. What do I do to make her stop or to let the others know who she really is?

Pretend you never heard any of the gossip. Kill her with kindness. Be pleasant and neighborly to her and all of your other neighbors. Even if you do not win her over at least some of the neighbors will realize who she really is; A petty, gossiping, slanderer.

I say go up to her and ask her if she really has a problem with you and what it is. Don't do this in front of other people, but resolve it like adults, if she starts to yell or talk smack, then turn around and walk away, because that means its her problem and not yours.
You should not have to put up with sewing circles anywhere. She is a mother too (well that is what I get from what you wrote) and should be an example for her kids too.

Once in a while throw a BBQ or potluck party and invite all over, including that woman. This way your neighbors will see the true you and your family and how well your kids behave (assumption here). If that woman doesn't come, it's her loss. At least you will clear up a few things with the others. They will see she's a liar and may even stay away from her.

forget what some might have said she said you said they said nonsense. pretend you never heard a word of it.
wave at her for a couple of days and
take over a jar of iced tea, some plastic cups, ( don't forget sugar and lemon ) and a fresh-baked apple pie one fine day ( don't forget to ask if she knows how to make good pie crust ) when she's sitting out front with the neighbors. ( she can bring out plates, silverware and napkins for her guests). that will give you a chance to chuckle with your neighbors or decide whether or not they are worth the bother.
i would guess she won't know how to act and you might well become good friends. certainly your neighbors will respect your friendly gesture and disarming bravery.
you will doubtless win the day
if that doesn't work piss on her dog if it comes in your yard (ha )
think of that and chuckle to yourself when you go over.

Every neighborhood I lived in has had someone like that. Usually someone is used to being the queen bee, is jellous, or is just the rumor monger of the neighborhood. Just ignore her, the more reaction she gets from you the more she'll just enjoy herself and keep it up. I like the other person's response, have a party and invite them over. Whatever you do, just be the better person and don't take yourself to her level, it's not worth it. It could be worse, she could be that nasty neighbor who reports you to the homeowner's association every time you forget to bring your trash bin out from the curb ;)

She is probably jealous of you and has nothing else better to do. The best revenge is to ignore her. The lady sounds miserable and don't let her get to you. If that was me, I wouldn't give a damn. If you want to be the bigger person, kill her with kindness, I'm sure it will make her feel stupid and eventually back down. Personally, my focus would be on my own family and not allow someone else to steal my joy.

People like that who make up lies soon become known as liars.
The problem with letting it get to you is that this is what they WANT to happen - that you will be affected and some how punished for being who you are. Maybe she sees you as smarter, or your kids are smarter, prettier, whatever. This is her way of bringing you down to her level. Just don't react, and sooner or later she will self-destruct.

I got a neighbour like that, except he doesn't spread lies about me. He just scares the living daylights out of me with those bulging psycho eyes of his and doesn't say hi. Anyways, who cares what she says and what the other neighbours think of you. You just live your own life the way you want to live it and don't let some bit'ch ruin it for you.

There are many things you can do in this event.One thing about neighbors is that its so amazing how they only catch you at bad times.Talk to your kids about these people.Make sure your kids are well behaved when they come to this persons house.A child is a reflection of thier parents!

My advice is to make their lives miserable by being charitable and generous. Make many small donations for them, with their names and addresses to every religious charity you can find, especially one's with "bible" in their name. Don't forget Chabad Lubavitch. Give them an anonymous gift subscription to every gay, socialist, black muslim and anarchist magazine you can find on the web. Don't lie or do anything illeagal. Just expand their horizons.
