Can anyone tell me the best way to deal with a cockateil who's teeny tiny eye feathers are curling up into her eye??? They are becoming irritated and she keeps wiping them on her wing, which is slowing the healing process. They don't seem to be infected, but her third eyelid is starting to come across the eye. Her eyesight does not seem to be affected either.

Is there any way of fixing it myself without a vet consult???

Thanking you in advance!!!

I think this is one job I would leave to a vet.Where they are so close to the eye you dont want to poke her in the eye.Cockatiels are very squirmish birds and when you try to restrain them ,they can stress out very easily. She actually may need to be sedated, which I dont recommend unless absolutely necessary as birds have a hard time with anesthesia ( I work for a vet ). I know in dogs they usually pull out the irritating eyelashes which would probably be similar to the tiny feathers you are seeing. If you cut them they are probably just going to grow back, thats why I think they may need to be pulled.Unfortunately It will probably need to be done under anesthesia.I hope this helps you!

I agree with Bird Lady. Your cockatiel really needs to see a vet for this. If you don't, your bird may loose it's eyesight from the constant irritation.

If you try to pull them yourself, you might injur your bird's eye very seriously.
