The other day two JW knocked on my door. They told me, "We know you were not expecting us, but we would just like to drop of this information. If you would like, you can look over it and get in contact with us."

This has not been my previous experience with religious people coming to my door, and I was impressed. If they are going to go door-to-door, I prefer this method.

Is this a new tactic for the JW?
Have any of you seen this happening before?

If you are JW, please encourage this tactic as it is much more considerate than being bombarded with....."Do you want to be one of the 140,000 select few that gets into heaven?"

Hi, we try to make ourselves as helpful and unobtrusive as possible. Glad you appritiated the visit.

PS um, we do not offer seats in heaven, or tell people if they want to be in heaven they better join us. Who goes to heaven or not is up to Jehovah. While we do feel that 144,000 humans will be in heaven, this is not the hope the majority of us have. Consider Jehovah's original plan was for man and woman to live forever on a perfect earth. Sorry for the misconception.

I am happy you appreciated their short visit. In fact, many prefer this method whereas some thoroughly enjoy conversing with us at length right there at the door. Even others invite us in and keep us there for hours talking about the Bible.

You might be interested to know, however, that this method is by no means new and is used quite often by Jehovah's Witnesses.

One bit of clarification . . . JW's do not ask people if they "want to be one of the 140,000 select few that gets into heaven" as you stated. It is not their place to offer heavenly life to anyone.

And Revelation speaks of 144,000, not 140,000.

I would just like to add, as previously stated by another
answerer, this is not a new way to witness. However this
method will likely be used more often now,as we feel it is
urgent to get the message out to more and more people, as
we are living in the last days of this system of things.
Thank you for the encouragement.......

It is a defensive move. Usually they have a newer convert along with a long time member. When they knocked on the door of someone who knew what they were about it looked bad that it was so easy to trip up the elder member. They would leave questioning their faith instead of sharing it.

They seem to be alright with recruiting more though, they just bump the number up......
I've had an experience like that except that I was visited by a group from a church. I kinda scared them though, I answered the door with my athame and a sage bowl.........

If there were really only 144000 people getting into heaven, why on earth would anyone try to recruit more which might bump them off the list. It's crazy.

No that has always been a practice of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

I don't get them much anymore, in the Past I just told them Who I Believed and Who HE Was.
And then I told them that I would never change my Beliefs.
That did it.

well my door is plastered with their propeganda about once a week. it is seldom that i see them because i work night shift.
but i have not had a nice experience with them yet. if they approached me in this manner i would probably have more respect for them and would definatly be nicer to them.
