Well if you are getting your ear horizontally pierced I can tell you from experience that on a scale of 1-10 it was only about a 2 for the outer part of my ear and about a 4 or 5 for the upper cartlige. When they did my upper cartlige there was a slight pop sound, don't jump or the piercing could rip. Afterwards it will be very tender for about a week or two, try not to bump it and do not sleep on it. In reality, the pain depends on your tolerance though. I've heard that it's better to have the bar put in immediately after piercing but with mine I had two rings for a month which is a lot easier to clean than the bar. I paid $40 for mine about 2 years ago. You'll need to be warey of it for about the first year, especially the upper cartlige because they are prone to surfacing, which on a pain scale of 1-10 is around an 8. Hope this helps!

Ear piercing stings a bit like a bee sting, then quickly subsides to a bit of an ache. On a scale of 1-10, I'd say maybe a 5-6, depending on your pain tolerance. The good thing is it doesn't last long. Take pain relief just before you go and that will help. I paid about $20, but that was ages ago.

Not sure about the ears, but I had my nose done and I'm terrified of needles - I almost pass out at the sight of them. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought - I could hardly feel it, but did get kinda dizzy after. Eat a good, full meal before you go, don't smoke or drink before hand, and keep a bottle of water handy. For a piercing you can take some tylenol before hand, but stay away from aspirin, it's a blood thinner and can make piercings/tats bleed more than normal.
Most places will let a friend sit with you to hold your hand too - that's what I did!

ensure you get a surgical metallic ring, and use a hoop extraordinarily for lip piercing (the back is diverse). you will come across a hoop at very almost any tattoo/piercing keep or at maximum department shops in shops like "warm subject remember" or perhaps in those mini cubicles.

The worst part about it is that its 2 piercings, not just one. Just when you think one is over, there's one more. It's not that painful as long as you don't get a bigger bar than normal. I'd rate it a 3, just because its not just one hole. Mine only cost $35.
