How do I translate the expression "look forward to" into Spanish?

It's for an essay I'm writing for spanish class.

I know how to translate it literally, but I doubt that the same expression is used in the spanish language. I'm looking for an equivalent phrase.

You are right. The literal translation wouldn't work.
An equivalent phrase would depend on the context, as some others have said. It could be:
"Esperar con ansias", or you can use the expression "I can't wait" instead ("no puedo esperar").
"Tengo muchas ganas" is also good. It's like "I feel a lot like... (doing something)".

Examples:
Espero con ansias el momento de verte
No puedo esperar para verte
Tengo muchas ganas de verte
(All are ways to say: I look forward to see you).

If it's not such a personal sentence, if you want to say "I look forward to work in this project", for example, don't use the first one ("espero con ansias". It sounds too strong). You could say:
"Tengo muchas ganas de trabajar en este proyecto"
or "No puedo esperar a trabajar en este proyecto".
"Estoy impaciente por trabajar en este proyecto" could also work.

If look forward to is used as in I am looking forward to see you etc etc. Does not have a direct translation,

But I would use Espero con ansias, o estoy ansioso por ...

All depends on the tone of the letter.

Mira para adelante just means Look ahead. nothing to do with the expression you are looking to translate.

if ur taking about looking forward to an event it would be: esperar con ansia or esperar con impaciencia

to look forward to do something would be: tener muchas ganas de hacer algo
