I have mild acne, but 'm sick of it. At my next dermatologist appointement, my doctor and I are going to talk about starting Accutane. What are things I need to know or should expect? Any prior tests? Is Accutane a pill? How many times will I have to take it? I've hear they give girls birth control pills? Why? Any side effects? I've heard DYRNESS is an issue. What should I use? A lotion- what kind? What about for my lips? Does Accutane cure scars too? Were the results AMAZING?
I'm sorry there are SO many questions...I'm just really curious and really want a cure for my acne. THanks so MUCH in advance. :)

Hi, do not worry about the Accutane, it is the best recommendation of your dermatologist.

Q. What are things I need to know or should expect
The acne is a part of glands that makes you the pimple, this product is going to absorve this glands and make them tiny for avoid the acne. The good thing is that it is 90% permanent removal of acne.

Q. Any prior tests.
No test, just that you cannot be pregnant during the treatment

Q. Is Accutane a pill
Yes it is a pill

Q. How many times will I have to take it?
It depends on how is your acne, the period is about 6 to 9 months approx.

Q. I've hear they give girls birth control pills?
Thats right to avoid getting pregnant, it is very risky. The baby will born with problems.

Q. Any side effects?
Maybe headaches and the lips very dry, you have to use chapstick for the lips. Also if you have an oily face, it will get dry during the treatment.

Q. Does Accutane cure scars too
No it doesnt, it is good to take this medication very quick to avoid the permanent scars.

Q. Were the results AMAZING
Yes they will, you wont regret.

You have to take in consideration that, for that period, you cannot drink alcohol, maybe just 1 glass of wine, but it is better that dont drink alcohol. You also need to be avoid of the sun during the treatment and not doing to many excercises. Do not combine with no other medication.

That product is the best, i recommend you to take. It tells you a person that took it.

Good Luck

I know all about Acutane! My son had actual scarring from such horrible acne. I took him to the dermatologist, and he was started on Acutane. Within 2 weeks, my son, had NO scars and NO acne..................but, there is more to realize about acutane.
Acutane can cause a psychic break...........like a nervous breakdown, suddenly, without warning in many people. My son had to be hospitalized for this just as he was finishing his 'treatments'. Also, if you are a female, realize this: When Accutane, first, came onto the market (when my son had it), the directions were that no female who is EVER excpecting to have children should take it. THEN, as the years went along, the warnings went down and down and down, until it said something like 'for the next 6 months'! I will never believe that one..........the result for my son were: Acne on his back, chest, face, were gone. They never returned! He's 37, he was 15, then! His skin is beautiful! He modeled a lot during his twenties. His entire self image changed, into a wonderful, outgoing person. His was so bad that he would not even go to his PE classes, because his acne looked like tumors and he was just so embarrased that he just couldn't undress!
Accutane did a wonderful job on my son's acne, no doubt about that. But, I know the Dr. used too high a dosage on him, as it was new and my son's acne was the worst he'd ever seen.
Some ladies do take birth control pills and find that it helps make their skin clear.
Accutane is a fantastic drug when dosage is correct. It WILL clear your skin, FOREVER! Do yourself a favor, since you are really being smart and logical...................do not get pregnant for a few years, please.

hey, i will answer all your questions i was on accutane. YES accutane will make your acne go away you will see results after the first month. You will have to take this treatment for about 5-6 months. Yes if you want better skin all the side effects like dry skin etc its worthy it. Now after you take accutane for 5-6 months you wont really have any acne for about 2 years and if your acne comes back in 2 years then you have to take accutane again. This medicine works but stopping the oil skin in your face and then starts working on the acne on your face by reducing the size and then weeks by weeks the pimples starts to go away and never return. So my advice go for it :)

I don't see a point in accutane if its just mild acne..find a product that works for you.
i was on accutane, but I'm a female there was more risks like birth defects miscarriage premature birth or death, i was not aloud to have sex for 2 months before going on accutane and was on a few different pills to make sure i didnt get pregnant, had to take a pregnancy test to prove i was not pregnant before getting my prescription i also give urine tests and blood tests every month. Theres a history of depression and slight suicide in my family so this was a risk, I went through insomnia, i very moody, i was too lazy to do anything, felt like no one liked me felt like i was ugly and fat which made me go through anorexica for a short time, It caused terrible dryness around my lips and mouth, the sides of my mouth split and bled during treatment and my skin became super dry and super flakey like lizard skin. I couldnt give blood take my vitamins or wax and some get facials. The side effects really did suck...I took 2 tablets a day with a glass of water. Do ALOT of research on it before you considder it, if your skin isnt that bad speak to a dermatologist about Tretinoin (Retin-A)
After all that, my skin is still crap...it cleared my skin for a few weeks. I'm now using Lush products.

Accutane is a pill that has herbal medicine inside. It makes your skin REALLY peel and peel and peel. This makes the acne AND scars go away. You take it I think once or twice a day, I don't remember. But after you use like one or two cycles, acne won't supossedly ever come back, except for rare minor zits. There are side effects, common ones as dry lips. accutane is also sometimes blamed for a certain cancer, but I can't remember which. i hope your skin clears! i want mine to, also, i'm thinking of accutane!

Accutane acne drug raises cholesterol, fat levels
by NewsTarget

(NewsTarget) New research published in the August issue of the journal Archives of Dermatology has found that a popular acne drug appears to increase cholesterol and triglyceride levels in users more than previously thought.

A team of researchers from the University of California San Francisco found that isotretinoin -- sold as Roche AG's Accutane and also as a generic drug -- raised triglyceride fat levels in 44 percent of patients with previously normal levels, and also increased total cholesterol in 31 percent of users. According to the drug's label, previous trials had shown Accutane to raise triglycerides in 25 percent of patients, and increase cholesterol in just 7 percent of users.

The research team examined the medical records of 13,772 isotretinoin users in California between 1995 and 2002. The median age of users was 19, and the median length of treatment was 21 weeks.

"The incidence of abnormally high serum lipid levels during isotretinoin treatment may be greater than previously estimated," the researchers wrote.

Higher triglyceride and cholesterol levels can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, as well as cause long-term health problems. Isotretinoin has also been linked to birth defects, and pregnant women are screened out before the drug is prescribed.

"This is yet another example of an unintended, but clearly harmful, side effect of a popular drug," explained Mike Adams, consumer health advocate. "The truth is that all drugs have unintended side effects, largely because they are incapable of targeting specific tissues and tend to run rampant throughout the entire body," he added.

Roche spokesperson Shelley Rosenstock recommends that doctors "consider the risk/benefit for patients for whom elevated lipid levels present a high risk," and that those who prescribe the drug have already been asked to monitor fat levels in patients before and during treatment.

"The sad truth is that most doctors will probably prescribe statin drugs to treat the side effect caused by isotretinoin," said Adams, "initiating an endless chain of treating the side effects of one drug with another drug that causes yet more side effects."
