I showed my parents my myspace and my mother thinks its a bad idea to have one since every "scientist" says its bad. I told her that my friends are everyone from school (the truth) but she thinks that I really dont have 100 friends from school. Should i listen to mother and delete myspace or should i be a rebel and do what ever I want.

A major problem with MYSPACE is that people (yes, even children) are putting suggestive photos of themselves and their friends... the surveys they take are suggestive... the language is out of control... they give out WAY too much information... (predators just LOVE that)... they surf around the other "spaces" and there are ALL kinds of inappropriate things ALL OVER the PLACE! There's really no way to block the vulgarity and immorality promoting information there.

There have been numerous cases of predators finding victims on MYSPACE. It's like a catalog for them! Young people are putting their city, state, school, place of employment, suggestive photos, hobbies, sports, etc... The conversations with friends clue them into where they are meeting, when their team plays next, trips they'll be going on... It's NOT so hard to go to a place with a printed photo from the web and figure out who you are. WALLA! VICTIM! People REALLY need to smarten up...

Mom and dad want to protect you. Seeing inappropriate photos of their "little girl" probably scared the crap out of them. They want you to have happiness in life. So many mistakes kids make now days makes there futures more difficult. Your parents love you and are requesting this for your best interest.

Maybe you could talk to them and come up with a compromise... Suggest that you "clean up" your page and make it private. Have mom and dad make a private accounts, too. You will be each other's friends. Only allow close friends from school on your friend list. Make it so all comments must be approved before posting. Anything inappropriate, delete and request to that friend not to send you inappropriate things. Promise not to go "surfing" other Spaces that are not close friends... OR even close friends that do not adhere to the same standards that you will be adopting. Parents having a page doesn't mean they have to "recruit" friends and such... but, they are welcome to check out your page anytime as your friend and feel comfortable that you're living up to your end of the deal.

If parents still aren't keen on the idea, just delete it. Show them that you respect and love them enough to do what is asked.

HUGS!!!! ; )

your mom is just ober reacting because shes seen what the stupid people have done on myspace and fears that happens to you if you keep it be sure to be smart about it it is only as safe as you make it dont have a profile where everyone can view it but where only you friends can the people you know can tell her your smarter than the people in the media on myspace

Ask your mother to help you create a space that she feels is okay for someone that is your age. Give her a list of the "real" names of your friends and their screen names.
Myspace can be okay as long as you use it wisely and never never give out any personal information.

since you have nothing to hide and it is a lot safer than people think, give your mom the option to montor your myspace for a while. She'll see how it works and what is hapening. the more she learns about it the better her comfort level.

Maybe not go so far as rebel. Can you discuss it with your Mother? Show her your friends are harmless? Do you have a second parent? Can you discuss as a family? Most important, can they trust you and can you trust them???

Delete it, Let your mom help you set up an account so that she can monitor what you are doing if you don't have anything to hide then you have nothing to worry about. Good Luck
