I have two baby budgies. Pippin(male) came home with me in December and Merry (female) came home four weeks after. Pippin had a mirror in his cage and I found that they were fighting over it a bit so I put another mirror in the cage. This is a large cage with plenty of room for both of them and they have other toys to play with also. I found them still wanting to be at whatever mirror the other is at and Pippin sometimes bullies Merry a little and then she does the same back. It does not last long and neither seems upset afterward. Pippin does the same thing with the millet spray too. Is this just playful fighting or something to be upset about?

What the birds see in the mirror is another bird, they are fighting over that bird. They bond to the "bird" in the mirror. If you remove the mirrors in time the birds will bond to one another. They can bond to one another and get along great and not have to compete over the other "bird".

I have never put a mirror in my birds cages because it seems to make them mean. My parakeet will just sit by the mirror and occasionally play with it, but it won't do anything else.

I do have a mirror on my parakeet and lovebird's play gym for when they are out of the cage. They still play with it (it has beads on it), but it is in moderation. They do not have time to bond to it. Since they are out of the cage they do not care about they mirror as much either.

My parakeet is alone in his cage without a mirror and he does just fine. He has many toys and loves bells. He dings his bells all day long and is very affectionate.

Birds will also fight over food. You can either put 2 things of millet in the cage or cut one piece in half. I usually cut mine in half.

I would take them out, just in case. Over the millet, it's more about who gets more, but over the mirror it's jealousy. Budgies are not aware that the bird in the mirror isn't really another bird, and can actually get kind of attached to the bird in the mirror. I had pet budgies that literally killed each other over another bird - it was like a freaking soap opera. Now that they have each other, they don't need the company of the mirror bird.

yes, remove the mirrors and the birds should start to interact with each other and become more friendly. is the millet in 1 spot only in the cage?, if so try 2 or more separate feeding places.

as far as the mirror, if you are planing to have your birds out and hold them, you might want to avoid the mirror. they will bond with the little birdy in thee mirror and not want to come out with you. as far as th millet, they will be territorial as they establish who is boss. if they seem to really be hurting each other, you could cut it in half and put it in two separate ends of the cage, or put in two, as long as they keep eating seed feed and don't get over weight.

i might get rid of the replicate, then set up the tile. whether you have been effectual in getting the tile to stick to the glass (unclear), i could be stressful with regard to the replicate having the flexibility to help the load. each and all of the tile and grout is going to characteristic as much as a impressive style of poundage - ought to all come crashing down. whether the glass helps it, you do no longer understand what's maintaining the replicate in place. even though it rather is wasn't designed to take the load of the replicate plus each and each of something.

Birds will bond with a reflection more than you or the other bird.

Take the mirror out while they're still young.

yes take the mirror away so they can make friends with each other instead of wanting to make friends with their 'mirror' bird and then having a bit of a fight about it. bird attach themselves to a mirror and it becomes difficult for them to become socialable

Yes. Birds do not realize that it is a reflection, so they think it is another bird, that they try to interact with and obviously cannot do so.

As long as there is no physical damage to your birds I wouldn't worry, they are just behaving like normal siblings
