John McCain to deliver keynote for creationist Discovery Institute
John McCain is freebasing again. Later this month, the Republican presidential hopeful will deliver a keynote address at an event co-sponsored by the The Discovery Institute, a creationist think tank.

Jerry Falwell will co-host a meet and greet for McCain at a national convention of religious broadcasters next week in Orlando. Falwell insists that his co-sponsorship of the event is not a show of support for McCain's presidential bid. In fact, Falwell's office says he may not even show up!

That's right, John McCain, feel the love emanating from the evangelical base.

Despite its self-proclaimed position as an unbiased think tank, the Discovery Institute has played a central role in the religious right's national campaign to undermine science education. From the infamous Dover, PA intelligent design trial, to the Kansas Board of Education, to the Santorum Amendment attacking evolution, the Discovery Institute has provided consultation, language, and even lesson plans to those who seek to replace science with religious ideology.

None of our elected officials should lend credence to such an enemy of science education, least of all a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.
