I'm not being a smartass. I'm a Christian but I just don't His ascension. Is heaven really out there somewhere in space?

He went to Heaven, and Heaven is a real place, It would take several billions of years to reach it going at the speed of light.
How a soul can travel there in an instant is much beyond anyone's understanding. I am guessing a worm hole, or something to do with the string theory.

Heaven as we think about it from the human stand point could be viewed as a different dimension. The spiritual heavens or place of God's Throne Read Revelation 4:1 through 5:14.

The apostle Peter states that Jesus died in the flesh but was resurrected “in the spirit.” (1Pe 3:18) Paul declares the rule that “flesh and blood cannot inherit God’s kingdom.” (1Co 15:50; compare also Jesus’ statement at Joh 12:23, 24 with 1Co 15:35-45.)
Paul likens Jesus’ ascent to God’s presence in the heavens to the entry of the high priest into the Most Holy compartment of the tabernacle on the Day of Atonement and specifies that on such occasion the high priest carried only the blood (not the flesh) of the sacrificial victims. (Heb 9:7, 11, 12, 24-26)
Finally, the ascension was necessary for Jesus’ administration of the Kingdom to which he became heir, with “angels and authorities and powers . . . made subject to him.” (1Pe 3:22; Php 2:6-11; 1Co 15:25; Heb 10:12, 13; compare Da 7:14.)

When Jesus ascended he went to Heaven, Heaven is a place that is above space and the universe. when God created the world he created 3 Heavens 1. the physical blue sky with coulds we see every day. 2. Space.. where the planets, sun, moon and stars are, and then 3. Heaven.. where God, Jesus and His angels are today.
Genesis 1:1 "In the Beginning God created the HeavenS and the Earth"

No one has an actual map if that's what you mean. He ascended on a cloud which throughout all of Scripture has always stood for mystery or the unknowable (the cloud that descended on the tent that held the Ark of the Covenant, the cloud around the Mountain top etc.) It was more of a way to define something that we can not fathom in our human minds. Mysteries.
