As a groomer, I generally advise my clients that the larger short-haired breeds can manage nicely with about 2 professional baths a year. Unless, of course, they get into something nasty. I also tell them that it is advisable for the health of the dog's coat to give them a vigorous brushing daily, about 5 - 10 minutes. You'd be surprised how this little chore adds luster to a lab's coat.

Only when they really need it. It is not once a month are every week, it is only when they actually need it! If their fur is dirty. Some people give thier dogs baths and they stink even more so they keep bathing them. This makes it worth. The reason they stinks is from thier waterproof oil that comes from their skin. If you bathe your dog too much then they get dry skin. So remember, only bath your old chocalate lab when he really needs it.

Depends upon the terrain and climate where you live. If it is out in the country and warm I would probably give it a bath once every two weeks. If it is a city dog once a month is adiquate. Some dogs like it though and will hope right in the shower if you let the discover it at a young enough age. Our dogs get in the shower we wash them throw them outside then take our shower. They love it..

I only have one 'set' bath per a year, with baths inbetween when needed. I personally think if you keep your dog well groomed otherwise, frequent baths are unecessary and don't give your dog time enough to reproduce the natural oils that they need which you're stripping from their skin and coat. But I also have Boxers (our Springer gets more baths than they do), and they don't require many baths at all.

What I'm trying to say: only bath your dog when you feel it's necessary.

They can go 2 to 3 weeks in the winter but in the summer 1 to 2 weeks is good.
You should sue a good puppy shampoo. When he is older use a good oatmeal shampoo. That way your dogs skin will not get to dry.
