Basic flaw - muscle does not "consume" fat. You will burn off the fat, and you will build muscle. Muscle is denser than fat. You are getting fitter, and putting on weight. perfectly normal.

Ask your "gym manager" if they can do a body compostion test - sometimes known as a "fat pinch test".

Weight lifting causes you to gain muscles. Muscles weigh more than fat. Therefore, if you want to lose weight, you have to do cardio for at least 20 minutes for 3-5 times a week. Now that can also pose a problem because weight loss is not that easy. You go through a lag phase where there is almost no change. As long as you don't eat more calories than what your body need, you should be able to lose weight. Keep in mind 3,500 calories=1 lb. of fat.

You can Lose 9 lbs every 11 days after you know these facts:

Low Fat Foods DON'T WORK.........
You cannot lose weight using Low Fat Diets. Low fat foods have been popular for more than 15 years, but yet our society is getting more overweight as each year passes. This fact alone should tell you that eating a purely low fat menu is not the answer to losing weight.

Low Calorie Diets DON'T WORK........
You won't lose weight using a Low Calorie Dieting Plan either. In fact, eating low calories is the worst thing that you can do to your body, since that will only slow down your body's fat burning engine and ruin all chances of losing weight (low calorie diets may allow a few pounds of weight loss for the first few days, but then after that all weight loss comes to a halt --- known as a dieting plateau). You can never get slim by starving yourself.

Low Carb Plans DON'T WORK.......
You'll probably find it extremely difficult to get slim using a Low Carb Dieting Plan. Low carb diets have recently become popular over the last couple years, but the problem with low carb menus is that they are too strict and TOO HARD TO FOLLOW for average people. Low carb menus tend to rob your body of too much energy (carbohydrates) and make it nearly impossible to remain on the program for very long. This is why so many dieters find it difficult to follow a strict low carbohydrate menu.

In fact, the food that you eat can either make you THIN or FAT!!!

Three things to consider. 1-If it is your goal to gain muscle tone and lose weight, you need to alter your workout by using lower wieghts and higher repetitions. The object is to increase the calorie burn while working the muscles into fatigue at the same time increasing heart rate. Secondly, you may want to incorporate some fitness exercise into your program outside of the class. It depends on what access to equipment you have. Last thing to address is diet, you mention that you eat a lot but you don't say what type of diet you maintain. Healthy, mixed, fast food driven... You may want to limit your processed carb intake and rely on whole grain carbs that do not raise the blood glucose(sugar) levels too quickly. When you consume processed carbs, you send your pancreas into overdrive releasing insulin to combat the high sugar levels. These will end up being stored as fat. Stay away from them!!!

When you excercise you raise you BMR, base metabolic rate, that's why they say you should excercise on a regular basis because it keeps that higher than it would if you didn't. The best way to raise this is do cardio workouts and watch what you eat. Drink more water and get more rest in place of eating more because you are so tired. And yes, muscle weighs more than fat, so don't be concerned about the weight. Nothings wrong with you, you just need to revamp a few things.

The best way to lose weight is through aerobic exercise (anything that requires you to move fast, like running or biking). This won't add muscle weight while burning fat, like lifting weights does. Also, if you really are exercising a lot , it's okay to keep eating a lot since you have to fuel your exercise, but stick with "natural" foods like fruits, veggies, non-fatty carbs, and only a moderate amount of proteins. These are healthy and good for athletes.
