Okay, i am 14 and all i want is a little maltese puppie, my mom said it would be okay, but my dad said no, i dont know WHY he said no but he said it was'nt beacuse how good i am, it was a diffrent reason.Should i tell him that Malteses dont shed, its free beacuse it is at a kennel and people that are allergic to dogs wont be allergic to Maltese beacuse they have hair MOT fur?? It is all true, so should i take another chance and tell him that even if he may get mad????

Well, I think that you should very calmly approach you dad when he is a good mood so that all you can do is tick him off a little. Tell him that you're not being smart or anything, but you were just wondering, if he could tell why you can't have a dog. If he tells you why, slowly disclose the information you listed above. If he gets mad, back off. It's all about timing and tone! Good luck!!

You have to sell your Dad on the dog idea and then tell him about the Maltese breed. People pay a lot of $ for them so taking a stray is even better cause he needs a home. They don't eat much, they don't have many health problems and they don't bark much. You should print some info off the internet and leave it by his chair to read. That way there is not argument...then try to talk to him, after he has the info.

Approach your dad with all the information about the type of dog you want. What it's need are, costs, sleeping arrangements, where it would be when you're in school and what you'll do with it when you go on vacation.

Tell him that you don't know why he said no but if it's because he's worried about you being responsible this should show him you are completely prepared to deal with doggy duties...and oh yes, don't forget about the doggy doody, I know your dad doesn't want to clean it up and your mom shouldn't have to feed it.

A dog is a BIG responsibility and is not cheap to keep so be prepared when you talk to him again. Ask him calmly not to get mad and won't he please hear you out and think about what you said. Then promise him after he listens to your case you will listen to his. You will have to accept his decision after this.

If you approach him as a responsible person, I doubt he'll get mad...even if he says no he'll probably be impressed you went to so much trouble. Good Luck

well Sammy I would like for you to ask yourself if you are ready to have a dog of your own. most of our younger members such as yourself say that they are ready to have their own dogs. when they get the dogs they love and pamper them(treat them like a prince or princess) but then the dogs start to get neglected and then people don't pay attention to them at all. I have volunteered at a shelter and I would like to tell you that it's a sad think to see which dogs are going to die today because of irresponsible bet owners that weren't ready for a dog or cat.

have you read any books on this breed? I tell you what would impress your dad would for you tell your dad a lot about the breed. that would show how much you want this animal and that you will be dedicated to it and it's well being.

fathers alway say no. its a man thing. maybe they don't want to pay the bill. your mom has agreed. I think the best thing is to have your mother talk to him or you and your mom go get the dog and let your father deal with it, because its there. just hope he doesn't demand you take it back because most breeders wont take them back. I am a rare exception Sorry i don't bree malteses. Just yorkies

He shouldn't get mad if you just reasonably explain your points, and ask him to explain why you can't get a dog. Ask if you can do extra chores to prove you are responsible enough to have a dog

sit down with both of your parents and have an adult conversation with them...Be prepared with the answers they are looking for... They are afraid that they will get stuck tending to the dog, feeding him, and paying the vet bills....Show them you are mature enough to handle it, by offering to pay for all its food and vet bills, as well as making sure it shots are up to date etc...You show that you are responsible and they will be more likely to allow you to get a dog... :)
